Default cooling fan wont shutoff, ignition off

Hi , Have a 96 with NA motor. The cooling fans wont shut off . Had to disconnect battery to keep it from going dead. I reconnected it after a minute and it worked normally for a couple trips then reoccured. I saw a previous post about looking for broken wires from temp sensor to PCM. Any other likely causes? Do you think a sticking relay could cause this? Thanks, Dave

Hi Dave..and welcome to the club.

I would personally aim straight to the relay. Replace/check the relay and let us know what you find.

IIRC the low speed is one relay..and high speed is another. If you replace and that does not solve the issue...probe for ground coming into the relay. It could be that the wire is shorted or something is bad before that..however our experience is relay.

You all will love this: I was going on info from GF that the car was intermittently having the fan not shutting off. So I swap vehicles with her and (fix it ) Tell her what I did and she says no not that. Its the FAN not shutting off. She says the inside fan! Doh!. Dave

Well, Did a search for blower motor problems and looks like maybe blower motor control module can cause the fan to stay on even with the car off. Im gonna take a look at that. Dave

Fixed the stuck on high Inside blower with a new blower control unit. Was $110.00 from a local parts place that does mostly wholesale and carrys acdelco. Oreilly and Azone dont carry it. Part is on the front of the firewall under the relay panel. Remove the 10mm bolts holding the relay panel to the firewall and you can pull the panel forward far enough to get at the blower contro unit. Prettty easy. Dave
