Default Cracked Fog Lights

Hey everyone! I was just cruising the net and came upon this website. I've owned my Bonnie for over two years and still love every mile I drive in it! I wish I would have found this site a while ago as I might have found some answers to a few of my problems. The problem I've got now really sucks , Both my fog lights are cracked in a few places. Be it from rocks, or ice and snow from our lovley Minnesota winters I dont know. But it is beginning to get pricey because I have to keep replacing the blown bulbs($8.00 a pop).
I think the bulbs are blowing because cold water seeps in the cracks and splashes on the hot bulbs causing them to blow. There is about an inch of water in the bottom of each light! If it is not the water causing them to blow, I suppose it could be electrical.

So here are my questions: Has anyone else had this problem, and if so how much do new light casings cost? Also, since I will probably have to replace them does anyone recommend any other kinds of lights replace them with?

Default Foglight replacements........

I have a few cracks around the screws as well and with my first winter fast approaching, I am waiting to see if same problem with blowing bulbs will happen. I have checked into the price of repacing the light and have been told by teh dealship that it will cost $170.00 Canadian per housing . I figure for that price I'll wait replace the bulbs if need be untill I can find replacement housings at the auto wrecker.

Well hope that helps alittle with cost of replacing the housings.

BonDevil,

Welcome to the forum! Like Nite Wizard said, look at a salvage yard. I have only hear of three members complaining of cracked fog lights, you two are two of them. I don't know if this is a common problem, but save your money and purchase used from a salvage (junk) yard.

If you are looking for something different, I believe Boseman350 did a blazertech swap. It may be in the tech area at the top. If I recall, the blazertechs are much brighter but also slightly smaller in diameter.

Good luck.

When I bought mine it had one fog light with a hole in it, and one cracked one. I replaced the bulb in the one with the hole in it, and it burned out again right away. I don't think the bulbs are designed to handle the elements.

I bought two new fog lamp assemblies from the dealer two years ago, and replaced them both, and haven't had any more burnt out bulbs since. They cost me $60 apiece. This was for an SSEi. The fog lamps on a SE are probably slightly different.

That'* the only way to go man. The gold trim packages of the early to mid ninetys will always be a classic status symbol.

Wow! Nice cars! Can I hang out in here? JSeabert'* is identical with the silver rims....and guess what? 2 busted fogs. www.gmpartsdirect.com has them for $50 US. Each, that is. Salvage is the best option.....they come new with the bracket/aiming assembly attached, and are ALOT easier to change than the SE. The SE are different, and the lights are not interchangeable.

Welcome to the forum....maybe we'll have to start a sub-forum for the GOOD LOOKING CARS.

Yeah, you can, but JSeabert can't. This club is exclusive for gold trim owners only.
