supercharger question
aight heres the problem
i have been getting a violent engine shake sometimes when i start my car. there is no pattern to it. it just happens. i asked my dad (mechanic) about it. he said inside the nose cone of the supercharger there is a hard rubber flex coupling that is going bad. he said to replace it all i need is the donut rubber thinger. prolly only cost $5 each, but you cant order it separate. i dont want to order a new nose cone ($250), and i was wondering if anyone with a service manual can tell me what the specific piece is called. and if anyone has one.....haha doubt it.. thanks in advance he says a blown supercharger would work for this piece |
It sounds like he is refering to the coupler. You can do a search in forced induction on this for a replacement walkthrough. Is your 95 a series ii or series I?

series one

this is what my dad is talking about, however it is for an eaton supercharger

Your supercharger is an Eaton, and that coupler will work for you.

It's not too hard to do at all. I just did mine the other weekend. Search though the Forced Induction threads, and you should find a shoping list, walkthrough, and pictures.
You can get the coupler and the supercharger oil from www.zzperformance.com From what i hear this is a much more durable coupler than the factory replacement. |
Violent engine shake? It's not the coupler. No way in hell. When couplers go bad they cause a rattling sound at idle, but no shake. The coupler and supercharger are incapable of creating engine shake. ABSOLUTELY incapable.
Remove your SC belt. Spin the SC. Does it spin ok? Yes? I knew that was your answer. Look elsewhere. We need you to pull codes, and give us all the details on your typical tune-up items, and their ages. Even if it were the coupler, buying one from a 'blown' supercharger would be like combing the wrecker for used wiper blades. A new coupler is less than $30 and this is a 'normal wear' part. It's that way by design. You really need to look elsewhere for the problem. In fact, I'm so confident and bold, I'll gaurantee you this: If it's the coupler, and you mail me your old one, I'll buy your new coupler from ZZP. ;) In other words, it isn't. |
well sugar...
i showed my dad the one from zzp this morning and he said to get it...that is before i checked my post. i am thinking that i have 2 problems though. because when he checked the motor out last night, it didnt do its violent shake, but he still heard the problem with the coupler, so ill just get that new and get it out of the way, needs to be done anyways ill go a little more indepth of the shaking problem. like i said before, there is no pattern to it, but it likes to do it after it has been running a while, then shut off, and then started after like...5 min? when the car starts it spits and spatters and can be felt throughout the whole car, it doesnt matter what gear or anything, and it sounds like its gonna die. but it doesnt, the rpms dont go below 1K. i can rev it a little just to keep it running, but it doesnt stop the shaking. after about 30 secs it all smoothes out and everything is fine, drives great. only at random start ups i have heard you guys talking about getting codes, what is meant by this? does taht just mean hooking up a device to the cars computer and getting numbers? how do i go about getting this, im sure my dad has testers for that, however hes at work right now, and i cant ask him. |
sugar was meant as a "well sh*t", not a sexual thing, LOL...sorry for any confusion
