Sunroof module -99 SSEi
 

Hi everyone it's been a while I haven't been here, well I tell you all that I bought the books for maintanance and repair of my vehicle... This topic is about the sunroof of my Bonni.
Following the instructions in the book of syncronizing the motor and the mountings... I notice that when I push the button in the rearward position and in the foward position, the sunroof does not open or closed automatically, I would have to do it manually. I found the module under the headliner (cealing), and I think that would be it.

Ok the question is how do I test the module without having another vehicle alike...?

Should I take it to a dealer and have it tested or should I get a new one? are the modules expensive?

I believe express mode is only available while opening, and while closing the vent. Express mode is not available for any other operation (At least in the 93.)

You have the service manuals? Check the Sunroof section in the electrical diagnosis section.

I have the manuals, that's how I got to the module. But when I bought the vehicle it closed automatically, I didn't have to stick my hand out the window to feel the roof of my car, to see if the glass from the sunroof was aligned even with the roof... I think that when you closed the sunrroof it should closed correctly so there is no leaking.

And the express mode you are right it opens fully automatically but it doesn't closed correctly, and if I was to hit the open fully feature again, when it's open fully, I will hear a cracking noise, and that noise is the transmission and the motor gear skiping. Which means is trying to open the sunroof again, when it's open already. Sounds confusing but is the best I can describe it... sorry for the confusion.

Now I have the module but, do you think a dealer would be able to tes the module and tell me if it's working properly, which I think is not since is not telling the sunroof motor what to do when motor press the limit switch.

OK, let me think about this again and get back to you. This sounds more like a sensor or alignment problem.

From the symptoms, it looks like you need to synchronize the track, then synchronize the motor. The glass is set too far backwards. I'm also worried about a gear being stripped.

When you close the glass, is it not coming all of the way up to the top? How about when you press the express open. Is it going too far back?

The switch to open and close the sunroof has to positions, one rearward and one foward position.
If the glass is in the close position, meaning is align with the roof of the car. And I hit the open and close switch rearward, then the glass automatic will open all the way to the back, I don't know if you call that the express open. Now if I hit the open and close switch to the rearward position being already open, I hear that the gear and motor it's skipping I hear in other words a cracking noise, and I'll will hit the foward position and it will stop.
Ok, when I hit the open and close switch to foward position it suppose to close, I believe manually, so I hit the foward position of the switch until it stops, which suppose to be in the close position. The glass will stop in the half way open position, which I believe is the position where the glass goes above the roof in a vertical way, half way open.

Ok, if I wanted to close the glass from the half way position I would have to hit the open and close switch rearward once, and release it, the glass will open automatically from the halfway position to open. I didn't close the glass, to close the glass in this situation I would manually have to hit the switch simultaneosly until it closes, but I would have to stick my hand out of the driver's window and touch the roof of my car to see if the glass is align even with the roof.

I thought it was the module which I had ordered already will see if that's it.
Now you said something, about the synchronization of the vertical glass. I would have to read that section on my book, to verify exactly what you mean, cause the book has a section on how to remove and sync your glass and sync your motor, which I did already step by step.

Let us know how it works out - I feel that the two items may not be correctly synchronized, causing the window to start and stop in strange places. The procedure, although short, looks like it requires some geometry. Let us know how things work out.

On a 2001, the synchronization is pretty simple. Hold the switch forward until it stops moving forward. Then, on the bottom of the motor there is a large round hole with a slot (about 3/4") You can insert a large flat screwdriver and push in. When you push the screwdriver into the hole, it disengages the motor. While pushing in on the screwdriver, turn the screwdriver until you completely close the sunroof. This puts the motor and the sunroof all in agreement that the sunroof is completely closed. You may need to open and close it a few times and "fine-tune" the closed position. Pretty simple.
