Sun Visor Removal

Hey all,

I'm going to get the sun visors in my 97 re-upholstered.
The owner before me smoked (yuck) and left burns in them.

If I could detach the visors I could simply drop them off at the shop and they could redo them. I wouldn't have to leave my car for the entire day.

I unscrewed the 2 screws and took the assembly down, but I couldn't disconnect the power wire. In my 91 it was easy, just a simple clip and it could be removed, but I can't find how to disconnect them in my 97.

Anyone know how?

In my '95 the wire connection is about 1.5-2 feet up inside the headliner. It was sitting near the front-center of the sunroof. There was slack in the wire. It was just taped up to the roof though. Pull the headliner down in the corners and look up in there (or feel up in there) and you should be able to find a connection.

Could I just pull the slack until the connection comes out? or do you think I have to take the headliner down..... I'm really iffy about doing that.

If you pull on it you might pull the wires out of the connector. You don't need to remove the headliner, just the trim in the corner and then you can easily reach up into it and pull the connector loose from where it is taped. Since the headliner is just basically felt and cardboard it can bend out of the way easy enough.

I don't remember if I needed to remove the A-pillar, door molding, or both. Either way they are easy to pull too.

i just pulled my wires gently until the connector popped through and just disconnected them, replaced them, and snaked the wires back above the headliner. it is very easy.

If you dont feel right tugging on it, you could snip the wire, and solder a quick connect in there. May not be favorable, but if you do it, dont crimp the quick connects, solder them,...it's alot better continuity, and it's much more sturdy.
