94 SE with P0705 code
Hey, First thread!
My 94 SE 3800 automatic column shift just set a P0705 on my Acctron CP9127 scanner. Car will start in both Park and Neutral with the foot brake set. Trans will slip like it is taking off in 3 gear with no clutch lockup.
I assume I need to replace a 'Park / Neutral Switch' or 'Neutral Safety Switch'. I found this text in one of the posts on BC Forums:
"Code P0705 is the Transmission Range Switch.... The PCM uses that switch to determine what gear you have selected... This code will not illuminate the SES light...
The PCM will however default to Over Drive or a D4 gear select, basickly meaning if you select Drive or 3rd gear the PCM is not seeing this and you are automaticly going into Overdrive by default because the PCM has no idea what gear you have selected... So even in manual 3rd, the car will go into Overdrive at the right speed"
This describes my problem. The question is how to fix it. "Where" is this Transmission Range Switch" located Specifically? "What" do the auto parts store call it? The auto parts stores do not find a part in their database with this 'name'.
Second is "How did I break it"? The transmission was working fine when I parked it to work on another problem. The coolant fans stopped working so I switched around some of the relays on the fire wall. There are 6 relays in that panel. So standing at the radiator and looking at the engine, I switched the around relays 4,5,6. I think 5 and 6 are the 'big fan' and 'little fan' relays respectively. I had replaced 5 before and got the fans working months previous after replacing the 40amp fuse twice and the relay.
Oh, also I have a bad linear EGR. It runs rough with it plugged in so I just unplug it and go on my merry way. I tried 'cleaning' it but that didn't help.

This might be called the park neutral safety switch. It should be mounted on the transmission where the connecting rod from the shifter connects to the transmission. I don't have any diagrams or photos.
