STUCK in REVERSE!

so my stepdad drove my bonnie to his meeting and when he went to pull out he got my trans. stuck in reverse, apperently the shifter moves but nothing else, he told me a mechanic he called for help said it was probably part of the linkage ?? ne body got any ideas?

Yeah, its gotta be the linkage. Probably the shifter cable broke.

i thought of that, but thinken about my luck id figure itd be something worse lol! i sure hope so, im outta money!

Back up kiddies. Let me ask this question first: Does the vehicle still start like it should? If it does, then it is NOT the shifter cable, as the neutral safety switch is on top of the trans, and the only positions it will allow for engine start would be park and neutral. And the only way for the switch to,well, switch...is via the shifter cable.

If it DOES start, the only other posibility I can think of right now is the internal linkage that links the lever on top of the transmission, to the valve body inside the trans. Unlikely, but possible.

uh oh...it starts, didnt think about that, crap, is that gonna be more expensive, somethin i can easily so myself?...im thinken not. talk to me

Now the question to ask is "how many miles are on the transmission"?

Check all the basics first. Fluid level and condition are about the only things you can check yourself unless you have a pressure gauge handy so you can check your line pressure. If you have access to a scantool, you need to obtain it and get us whatever codes are present. Even better would be one that allows realtime monitoring, so you can see if the shift solenoids are working as they should.

Let me ask this...when you put it in Park, does it actually engage the parking prawl? And going from park to reverse, do you get the normal RPM drop? Can you physically go into another gear range and neutral? If so, the internal linkage is still good (I suspect it is..I've been inside a 4T60-E and there isn't much that can go wrong in that area), and your problem lies elsewhere.

all i can tell u at the moment is that the car starts, and the transmission is only like 3 yrs old, i know that when i was messin around with my 8-ball shifter that the shaft doesnt pop back out like its supposed to, i have to pull it up when i put it in park to release the keys
