I remember something like this. I think it was Tam or Drifter. Not sure.

Anyway, remove the shift handle. There's a small clip you have to pull out on the forward part of the shift handle. Use a small flathead screwdriver to remove it. Lift the handle off. Use a penetrating lubricant in between the shift 'shaft' and housing. While you're in there, lube the linkages and notches with a light oil. After the penetrating lubricant has soaked down the shaft for awhile, try to manually push down on the end of the shaft and work it in. That should do the trick for you unless something is broken.

You should have the T handle shifter like I do. It was used from 92-93 only. The cobra head design isn't as prone to this problem, as the button pushes directly down on the shaft, where ours has to use a sliding wedge to depress it. Let us know if this works for you.

I have heard of similar problems before. One thing you can try is to pound on the top of the shift handle to make sure it is on all the way. If it is too far up it won't make enough contact between the lever and the button/rod it pushes on inside of it. If this works it is a REAL cheap fix, and if not, no harm done.

A lil more detail please.. is the button itself gettin stuck in ?? as in the button wouldn't release or button works.. one thing I noticed bout mine and learned this lil trick from my Muffin.. is to slam the shifter head down the shaft.. cause it's happened to mine and she proved me wrong.. that the shifter knob (head ) sometimes moves up just enough that I couldn't get it into park before... if that isn't it.. take the shifter knob off and see if the angle pin inside is fine and the actual button on the shifter shaft. Sorry.. need a lil more clarification on whats wrong... speakin Yoda you are...

stuck in park

problem is button won't go in. It comes out fine. I can hear a cliicking noise in selector console when i push on brake pedal so it seems to be mech like a solenoid sticking.I will try the lube trick.I'll post with results tonight. thanks for reply everyone . PS I have info on the 92blower swap to the 94blower with larger throtle body there's more to it than you know.

Don't tell me you bought a Floz. Please. I don't need another headache. We're already very familiar with the problems with that swap. Wish you'd found us sooner.

i have a 94 SSE as yall know! i went to the junkyard by my house and got the cobra head shifter for $5.00. That took care of my shifting problems. It also helps when speed shifting because it feels more like a manual shifter. It also makes the car look cooler! Just figured i would let yall know so that maybe you could find one cheap in a yard>

You may have more problems than that. I'm willing to bet your car won't idle when you get done. You may need to re-flash your pcm for the increased airflow.

The DIFFERENCE in price between those two shifters, dealer retail is $200. The T shaped shifter used from 92-94 is expensive. Glad you found one so cheap, that cobra shaped shifter would be 70 bucks from the dealer (leather). About 40 bucks from www.gmpartsdirect.com
