Default Master Cylinder failure?

brake light comes on for extended periods. fluid level is "ok" but appears to be seeping out of seal where it meets the fire wall drum thingy. the brakes work fine.... is the master cylinder failing? how expensive is a new one? please say its not and that its an easy fix!

Can you tell if it'* leaking from the brake lines? Changing the master cylinder is a rather straight forward job. I can write something up today.
