just got my 92 ssei back on the road after a 5 year rest in the greenhouse and a coil pack replacement to correct a hesitation problem. brakes were ok before inspection but now can go to the floor ,but can be pumped up.abs &traction lites have been on for years with normal braking and the mechanic told me the abs pump is bad and needs replacing. very odd to lose pedal after the inspection.in my experience a pedal to the floor points to a bad master cylinder as no work was done to the brake system. please give some expert feedback :

pedal to the floor to me would be either the master cyl or the booster going bad. Another possiblity would be a leaking line, but I think that would cause you to lose fluid pretty quickly.

As for the ABS/Traction lights, it'* either the pump or a wheel speed sensor. my guess is since you had the mechanic check it, he checked the code and found it for the pump.

Try bleeding your brake lines. Sounds like air in the lines to me.

When I was working on fixing up a Mazda 929 [RIP]
We took a wheel off to hit the brake drums to get the E-Brake to un-stick.
After that, I couldn't get the brakes to work without pumping them a few times.
After a while we figured out that we must have hit something when we had the Caliper off and knocked a line loose. After we fixed it there was still air in the lines so the fluid wouldn't compress and push the pistons.

update, the master cylinder replacement didnt fix the problem. im thinking that the dino test for inspection may have damaged the abs pump even though the abs and traction lights have been on for and long time as car was off the road. any thoughts?

There'* really only one thing that will cause a brake peddle to go to the floor and then pump up and work. And that'* air in the brake system. You need to bleed all 4 brakes. Get a big bottle of brake fluid, open one bleeder and pump. When your sure you have replaced ALL the fluid in that line, close the bleeder and move on. Best to have help. Make sure you refill the master after each bleeding. Do not reuse the fluid.

brakes are ok now after replacement of a brake line from the mc to the abs pump. thanks to all for the great advice.

Was that line leaking or something? Or did you just purge all the air out after replacing it?

the line had some micro corrosion and an air leak danthurs .thanks for the interest. it' * good seeing solutions to these problems. could you tell me exactly where and how to get to the chime module in the 92 ssei? i guess you have to disconnect the spedo cable to remove the instrument cluster
