I got one of the modified UIM'* to replace mine that I assume has failed. My question is, how do I know by looking at it? The oil that was visible when I replaced the uim was very watery, but I don't see any obvious signs of failure?
I'll try to post some pics...[/img]

here are some pics of the old part. I guess my problem is that I don't know where the oil runs. I guess the coolant only runs right around the EGR port right where it connects to the throttle body?

You may have to poke around a bit where the EGR stove pipe comes through the upper. Does any of the plastic crumble away, or create any holes into the coolant passages?

here'* a dumb question, but what is SUPPOSED to be in the area right on top of the lower intake? Air, oil, or coolant? Mine was FILLED with very watery oil. I always assumed that there was only supposed to be air in there...

Technically ..nothing should be on top of the lower intake. However ..over time the pcv allows the excess pressure into this area and you will get a little oil...but not much and it should end up as a thin later of goop. If you found watery oil..then your upper intake was failing.

I had quite a bit of fluid there. I thought it was mostly oil, but when I started soaking it up, there was quite a bit of coolant.
Oh, and sorry for the blurry picture but look what else I found....
