starting problems..going nuts
 

i've read through at least 50 posts on here and tried everything i could think of and am still lost, my 93 bonnevile wont start, i turn the key, i get one single click, that's it, security light comes on for just a few seconds and goes off, i'm pretty sure it's not that or anything having to do with vats system, i found some corrosion at the positive battery terminal and cleaned it out but it didn't help, but when i reconnect the positive battery cables then it starts, and wil start several times as long as i don't drive too far, if i go a few miles down the road and come back and shut it off thats it, it won't start again, then disconnect and reconnect the battery and it starts again, can anybody help me before i start jabbing this thing w/a screwdriver?

is the battery screw stripped? it sounds like a strip connection.. and you said you cleaned the connectors.. did you clean it with a battery post brush? ( or metal brush ) to ensure there's no corrision left. When you said corrision and you cleaned it out.. did you ensure that the surface is smooth and as straight as possible?

Check codes in non start situation. Get back to us.

Make sure the grounds are making a good connection.

Are you saying the starter won't turn the engine over?
If so check all battery connections, water, and starter connections first.

sounds like a crank sensor ssesc93 had the same prob

I still think it's the connector.. but not too familiar with crank sensor.. so in a hypothetical situation.. if it was the crank sensor.. how would removing the battery cable and puttin it back on allow the car to start? thought it was kinda like a magnet passing a magnet and killin the power wouldn't reset it like it would the PCM or ECU

If your battery post was corroded, it's a pretty good guess that other locations will be not making contact as well. Remember to check all your grounds. There's 3 main locations, I believe. One that people don't think of is right by the starter and the positive connection on the starter as well. Check these.

Could be just a battery going on the blink. May just need a new one.

finally found it, turned out the power wire running from battery to starter was leaning up against heat shield and melted to it, shorting it out...thanks everybody for the help, much appreciated!! 8)

Glad it's nothing major, and expensive.. and the fact she's running great again.

I hope during the short it didn't shorten the life of your battery..
