Default Engine pop in cold weather...

I have a 96 Bonne and have noticed a popping when first starting the engine mostly in colder weather. It sounds like a can expanding and popping if you know what I mean. My suspension also feels loose going over speed bumps. Any ideas for me. I am going to start on some mods soon and was also wondering what should be my first venture? This is my first post so please be gentle!!

We Love Our Bonne!!!

Welcome...

Popping.. doesn't give us much to go on. Is it only when super cold. Maybe a slight exhaust leak?

Suspension.. check your endlinks. The bolts in areas northern areas have been known to rust up and possibly break.. or maybe your struts are leaking and are getting bad.

Push up and down on each corner of the car and see how many bounces it takes to stop.

Well like I said...it sounds like a when a tin can expands or contracts and that is the best explanation I can give you. I have noticed small puffs of smoke from the manifold when I first start the car. Manifold gasket?? I am going to put it in the shop and have them go through it with a fine tooth comb!!
How about some mods I can do for looks and HP boost??

Most Bonnevilles didn't come with Exhaust manifold gaskets from the factory. Yours do sound like an exhaust leak due to a poor mating or a crack. If you pull them, put them back with gaskets.

Post your performance questions in the Performance and Brainstorming section after you read the suggestions in Techinfo. We'll be happy to help you out.
