Stalled again, pulled more codes.

Lately my father has been driving the SSEi to and from work. Yesterday on his way home, it stalled. So, he called me and I went to go help him out. When I arrive he tells me that he had just pulled codes off of the computer. He then tells me that the only lights on were the Service Engine Soon light and the Voltage light. The codes he pulled were 17, 43, 57, & 58, and of corse 12. We think that codes 17 and 43 have something to do with our problem. The car would turn over fine, but just wouldn't fire. It seemed as if it was getting fuel just fine, but no spark. Then I pulled in front of him and hooked up the jumper cables just to see what would happen. As soon as we hooked the cables up, and on the first turn of the key, the bonneville started right up as if it had no trouble. So, now that we have been able to provide you with some more information, maybe we could narrow the problem down. I don't think this has anything to do with the fuel tank or any of that stuff anymore.

On another note, the other day my dad told me the car stalled a few times. A few times in the same day. My father said that he wiggled/ tightened the battery terminal connections and maybe something else and it started up just fine. He tells me that he thinks it has something to do with the Ignition Control Module (ICM) and that's where we should look. So, naturally, I have a few questions:

1) Could my ICM be causing these problems?
2) What are the symptoms to know that my ICM is going bad?
3) What do the codes he pulled mean?
4) Which of these codes are significant, which aren't?
5) How do I get these codes fixed?

I would really appreciate any and all help. This is a biggy, if I get these problems fixed, we might not have to sell the car. Or I could sell it for more if somebody is willing to pay. I would really like to get this problem resolved, and resolved quickly. Hopefully, I won't have to try to drop the tank because that is going to be too time consuming and I don't have the right equipment for it. Again, I would GREATLY appreciate the help here.

Anybody?

List the definitions of the codes. Not just the numbers. It's a PITA to look them up each time.

Disconnect the battery for 30 minutes to clear them, then go drive again. List only the new codes, but ignore the 12 and 58 when you post.

17 - Spark Reference Circuit
43 - Electronic Spark Control Circuit
57 - Boost Control Problem

I will go disconnect the battery and take it the car for a spin in a little bit.

And tell us if you notice anything odd about the boost gauge, assuming that code comes back.

Well, lately, the needle reading the boost would be really bouncy and usually below 0 psi. Which I though was wierd.

Weird? Yes. Wrong is more like it.

Sounds like you either have a BCS or BCA taking a dump. Do the boost bypass trick.

BCS is Boost Control Solenoid, but what is the BCA?

Doing the boost bypass trick would just fix the funky boost guage, right?

Any thoughts on the other problem?

BCA is boost control ACTUATOR. It's what the BCS is attached to, and physically actuates the bypass in the SC.

'fix it', no, but it'll give you an idea of what may be wrong. Neither part is expensive or difficult to change. And it could be contributing to your stalling.

Do a search on 'boost bypass', search for all terms, either performance or forced induction forums.

I think I know how to do the trick. Am I just looking for how to do it, or anything else?
