Bad lower engine oil leak
Hi all
I also have a bad oil leak near the oil pan. About a week ago I replace the oil pan gasket and siliconed around the seal. That seemed to help for about a day or two but then it started to leak again.
Has anyone else had that issue and if so what did you do to correct it?

When I park the car, I get about a 3 to 4 inch diameter circle of oil. It does this each time I stop. It also is blowing out when I am driving. It coats the exhaust and catalytic converter and then it stinks like heck.
It probably takes about 2000 miles to go down a quart.

Try to determine if it'* still coming from the oil pan gasket. My bet is that it is.
You should be using the re-usable OEM gasket (rubber), not cork, and no rtv or sealant.
You should also torque the fasteners by the book. I think your best bet is to get a new OEM gasket and start over.

As Will has stated the OEM gasket IS your best bet. The OEM Gasket is specially treated to "Heat" seal itself to the block, therefore any "other" substance on it will ruin this effect. Make sure that the Oil Pan'* mating surface itself has a straight suface too.
I've seen the Front Cover & Oil Filter Adapter-to-Front Cover leaks too BTW!

My 95 SLE has sprung leaks before. One (at around 75k) appeared to be gradual -- used 1/2 qt on trip to OK from Chicago. Upon arrival back in Chicago, the car was smoking from all the oil that dripped along the exhaust system. At first we thought it was the nearby grill! It turns out that the rear main seal was bad. It'* a pain to get to, but it did the trick. About 50k later, I parked the car in the garage noting a smell of oil. The next day I went to check it and found a large oil spill. Freaked me out! It turns out the rear main seal was bad again along with the associated bracket seal. They also claimed the pan was leaking. This amounted to about $40 in parts but several hundred in labor. They had to drop the tranny and everything.
You may have fixed your problem by now, but I thought somebody might benefit from my experience.
