Ive noticed with my alero, every time I change the front brake pads the pedal is soft for a short time while the pad wears into the rotor and seats itself
and yes I have bled the brakes on the car

I agree that you need to bleed the brakes. Also, check the adjustment of the rear drums. If they're not adjusting properly, you'll get a pedal that feels spongy and/or will go further towards the floor before brakes start to work. Take the rear wheels off, and spin the drums. There should be a slight drag from the rear shoes. Does your emergency brake hold at one or two clicks? If it has to click 7 or 8 times or more to hold, the rears are probably out of adjustment.

I was replying back to BonnevillesSince62 about how many clicks it takes my ebrake to lock the rear tires. I have to put it to the floor, and I know I have to adjust them now. I also have to bleed the brake system and maybe that will help make my peddle less soft
