car dies all of a sudden...
I need some advise you guys.....okay, I have a 92 Pontiac Bonneville..its not in bad shape at all, but recently its been going dead for no reason. It happens when Im driving on the highway, when im at a stop sign, or whenever it feels like it....the "Check engine" light comes on for one second ..but doesnt stay on ...it just stalls and has to sit for awhile before it restarts. I was told to make sure it had a tuneup, and it just had one last year. I really don't want to get a new car, because I like this one (plus I dont want the payment) and Ive had it to a couple shops and they said they really cant tell whats wrong unless the check engine light stays on....which it doesn't. So before I have to get rid of this car, cuz its annoying, does anyone have any ideas?

I don't know how, but there should be a way to jumper the OBD1 connector under the dash and get the codes off the flashing SES light. Someone else here can most likely tell you how to do that. I know if you can get us the code we can tell you what is causing the SES light and probably the stalling too.

This happend to my friends Grand Marquis. His injectors were feeding too much fuel to it. Engine flooded.. Other than that I have no clue....

This is currently going on with my 90 sse and it stalls once it gets hot and has to cool before it will start again.
Looks like it'* the crank sensor on mine. Not sure if this helps but something worth checking on.

On your OBDI diagnostic terminal under the driver'* side dash/column:
The diagnostic connector you need to jumper is underneath the steering column above where your feet usually go when you're playing with pedals!
You have a 12-pin DLC terminal. Pins A and B are the 2 furthest to the right (passenger side of vehicle) on the top row. Jumper them with the ignition off. For the rest of the procedure, the car should NOT be started, just one click past acc to just before start.
Jumper pins A and B with a wire, or a paper clip. Turn the ignition on. Watch the check engine light....it'll flash once, then twice, and repeat this three times.....this is the 'handshake' code, and tells you the car is ready to talk. Any series of codes after that are FAULT codes. for instance, a flash, flash, flash, pause, flash flash would be code 32. The handshake 12 and each error code will always repeat 3 times. After all the error codes are displayed, it will go back to the 12 three times to indicate that it'* done. (flashes 12 three times, flashes each fault 3 times, then flashes 12 three more times).

my car did that too. i was driving on the highway and i lost all power and the light came on. soon after i gained power back and it did it again. mine hit aroudn 70mph. Altinator blew. id get that checked.
