Smoking wheels
 

I got my brake pads and rotors replaced yesterday on my front 2 tires and driving to work today I noticed some smoke coming out of both tires. Its about 90 degrees outside so the wheels obviously gets very hot. I was thinking this might be because some lube from the shop got on the rotor during installation. I checked the CV boot and it seems to be fine and not leaking any grease. Apparently the guy did lube up the calibers and maybe he got some on the rotor. Was wondering if you guys agreed though.

New parts do need a break in time, which could generate some smoke. And mechanincs hands get dirty, so your theory could definitely be true.

Watch it for a day or two. If it goes anywhere near that long, take it back!!!

I'll give it till Thursday and see what happens then considering I have no other way to work. I'll make sure the amount of smoke doesn't increase though since if the theory holds true, it should decrease. Worse case, there are tons of gas stations between me and work.

When they replaced my engine (totally different scenario, but sill...) it smoked like crazy for the first day until all the oil burned off.

Personally, if my brakees generated smoke for more than a day, I'd take it back for a double check....

When I do my brakes I get smoke for the first couple of trips.... For me its the Brake lube burning off the back of the pads... Silicone Lube I think... And the coating that was on the pad face itself... After the first couple of trips I never saw the smoke again... ;)

Keep an eye.... If it keeps happening take the car back...

I've always soaked new pads in warm dish soap water. They put that coating on the pad to keep them from rusting on the shelf.

Brake cleaner removes that coating, too.

MOS has a good point too. Mine smoked like a bitch at first. I mean it looked like my LRH came off, and had smoking hot coolant pour all over a 3,000* block. It did that until I drove the car around a little.

Next time you get your brakes done, try to get them to spray some more brake cleaner on there to clean all that shit off, because I am sure the smoking brakes can't be good.
