Default 95 ignition

my car would turn over but not start.........
I tried to start it the other night on new years eve and the car wouldn't start...... then my bro checked the spark plugs and saw there was no spark........ then it did start once and then not again.......

the next morning it started fine....... went around and parked then started fine again.... an hr later trying this again.......... though after that it wouldn't start....... then I tried putting it in neutral (I had read about that here) and it started..... then worked fine after turning it off and on again.......

someone told me to take it to autozone and tell them it check my ignition and see if they can determine what'* wrong with it.

you guys got any ideas as to what it could be?.
thanks

little extra info...... it'* a SE

Do you have an SES light? It'* possible it could be a cam sensor, but if shifting to neutral continues to fix it, your Park/Neutral safety switch in the center console needs to be adjusted.

Service Engine Soon light?

Also known as the CE light? Check engine.

Sounds more like your park/neutral switch. If it'* bad, you should have a code set, but not a light. If you have a center console shifter, as opposed to column shift, it'* located in the center console beside the shifter linkage, and if I recall, it'* white.

To open the console, pull the clip out of the forward face of the base of the shifter handle, and lift the handle up. Remove 2 torx screws inside the ashtray (under the insert). The console pivots up from the rear hinge. You'll see everything inside.

the check engine light only comes on when I put the switch to on......... if/when it starts the light goes out as does every other light........

I have the shafter on the floor not on the steering column.

Dig for that safety switch. Not sure, as I don't have my schematic handy, but you may be able to simply disconnect it if it'* bad, but it sounds more like an adjustment issue to me.

The P/N switch can prevent the car from starting. Is that your problem? It SEEMS to be by your description, but we're quite a ways apart, so I can't tell you for sure.

If you have a warranty, don't bother digging into your console, but your warranty will likely only be for the drivetrain, the P/N switch might not qualify. Be ready to pay.

seems it'* not the switch cause randomly this afternoon it decided not to start........ didn't matter if I put it in park or neutral............. then it finally started after I sat there a bit and tried again (I tried many times)...... after that it worked fine again.

anyone got an idea of what it might be??
