1996 SSEi Airbags
Has anyone had the pleasure of having deployed Air bags in a 96 SSEi ?
I was told that it says in the Service manual that if the airbags deploy you have to change them and the front sensor but not the SDM module under the passenger seat.
You do have to clear the codes from the SDM however and I'm wondering what tool/scanner I need to get to do this job.
I did buy another SDM from Ebay from a non deployed car, but am still waiting for it to arrive.
I'm wondering if I can just reuse the current SDM (I have it out of the car now and am scared to install it in case the bags deploy by themselves).
Thx for any advice...

Dealer has the computer to reset the SDM. It would prolly cost you more to buy your own computer than it would to take it to the dealer.

Well, I received the SDM Module(supposedly from a non-deployed car) yesterday from Ebay and installed it and when I key ON, the airbag (AB) light flashes 7 times then stays on. It'* supposed to turn off at that point. So I started the car and it flashes 7 more times and still stays on.
My friend has the Tech II scanner at work. He'* going to bring it by today or tomorrow
Hopefully it just a matter of just clearing the codes...

Ok here is the solution. My friend hooked up the scanner and extracted a B1036 code, which means: B1036 - Discr. Sensor Open or Short to Voltage
He said this translates to the Front Descriminitory Sensor. He said it should be 8.5K Ohms or more. I measured the one on the car and it was at 900 Ohms.
So off I went and found a used one that had that measurement and viola, the Airbag light is now off!
Tomorrow it will go for Machanical Inspection and I will finally get to drive this baby!
Can't wait!!!
