Can't find stock exhaust system?
I need a new exhaust pipe from the cat back for my 97 SSEI. I've been to 5 parts stores and nobody has it. Everything is for the non-supercharged bonnies. The GM dealer want $300 for the exhaust pipe and $350 for the muffler. All I really need is the pipe, I'll use an aftermarket muffler. Does anybody make the pipe besides GM? Or how much will it cost to have a shop bend pipe?

Good luck finding a pipe. You'll probably end up getting one made if you need a replacement...the OEM part is mandrell bent stainless steel so why are you replacing it?

Are the SSE and SSEI pipe the same? When I went to the parts store I told them I needed the pipe and muffler. I guess the routing for the pipe should be the same on both cars. I'm have to replace it because I removed the resonator and did a poor job welding. Then here in Massachusetts my flowmaster will not pass inspection, so during the winter I did a quick fix of putting the stock muffler on, that kind of hung low. Then the other day I ripped the exhaust apart going through a construction zone. So if I can use the pipe from the SSE, are there any aftermarket mufflers that are quieter than the flowmaster? I could probably even use one from a stock firebird. Because the stock GM muffler is $350.

You should have kept the resonator. Your flowmaster would have been a bit quieter, and you wouldn't lose any performance (not that you could feel, anyway).
I suggest using the SSE 2.5" pipe, put a resonator back in, and put your flowmaster back on.

Found the pipe online at http://www.buy-oem-parts.com/. $155 for the pipe, the dealer wanted $294. So I'm going to call them tomarrow and order it. I'll get a pipe to put where the resonator goes, and I'll do it right this time. Any suggestions on muffler type. This place sells it for $275, better than the dealers $342 but still alot. The flowmaster was too loud for Massachusetts inspection. Anything aftermarket that is a little quieter.
