96 ssei tranny stuff
Hey guys, I have a 96 ssei. The tranny seems to shift fine, but the check engine light is always on. A local tranny shop said the codes for the shift solenoid(*) are showing, but when they test drove it they agreed is shifts fine. The only other thing I noticed is that it gets about 5-8 MPG, not sure if that is part of the tranny issue, but man gas aint cheap & I replaced nearly the entire ignition system & still **** poor mileage. Anyway, I am curious if I do need the solenoids or could it be something else? Also, can I do this in my garage without pulling the tranny out?

Please go have the car scanned and get the actual code. It'll be a "P" and three digit number. That will help us narrow it down much better for you. Might be a simple loose/intermittant wire.
On the 5-8 mpg. Have you checked the O2 sensor and the catalytic converter? Sounds like you have a pretty serious issue there.
