Series 1(s/c) Gatorback Belt p/n

I've searched the forums and techinfo and still havent came up with a p/n for a smaller s/c belt. I have a 2.3" pulley on my s/c but am having loud squaks and belt slippage. Ive bought an oversized tensioner pulley(3.25") but is practically the same size.....

Anyways I was wondering if anyone knows the p/n for a gatorback belt smaller than stock size? Im sick of the squak and poor acceleration

OK, I can't find the actual belt number right now, but here's the secret:

Whatever the part number is, say 4060940 for example, the last three digits will tell you the length in inches. The number above would be a 94.0" belt to get a 94.5" belt, you would get a 4060945, for a 95" belt, 4060950, etc...

So go into your parts store, find out what size is standard, then ask what the next size smaller is. Sometimes there is a 1/2" smaller size and sometimes only a full inch difference is available. Let us know what you find. ;)

Just don't go too tight. You will want some tensioning occuring and an overtight belt could damage pulleys.

Check the travel marks on the tensioner. It'll give you an indication of when you have it right.

Gatorbacks come in 1/2" increments using the information above.

Have the routing diagram handy. some of the cars have it on the raditor support or it's around page 6-67 in the manual.

After running the engine and listening to pullies me and alex both seem to think its the belt tensioner after all. Anyone know what the correct tourqe should be?

What makes you think it's the tensioner? Is the tensioner bouncing too much? Is the pulley making noise?

I don't believe that the tensioner is something you crank on. For me it has always been a spring-loaded device that provides it's own correct tension. If it is not then you may need a new one.

it is bouncing a lot at the start up every time pulley makes no noise... we have tighened and loosened the tensioner and got good results but eventually the squak proceeds on again

OK, so set me straight...

The tensioner pulley is squawking after the engine warms up. Is that correct?

Is it the new pulley that's doing this?

Are you positive it's the pulley or is it maybe the SC?

What is telling you that the belt is slipping?
