Exclamation Fresh non-rattling supercharger..Still problems!!!

Ok so I went to the yard to get a supercharger mine was definitly rattling. Well today I installed it. When it was all done I fired it up and the rattle is worse, but not coming from the supercharger it sounds like its coming from my water pump which is ok because I'll just change it too. Ok so here'* my problem... At the beginning of the year my a/c compresser pulley seized so I just ran a smaller belt, the belt I used is a 525k6 it seems to be perfect but I had to take the tensioner pulley off. I'm wondering if this smaller belt added boost or sumthin and is now burning stuff up, off tuned supercharger, belt too tight even if its perfect tension? I really hope I didnt mess up, should I put the tensioner back on? A/C compresser? everything else is great its just the noise, gauges are all normal and everything I'm stumped!!!

Moved to 92-99 for better exposure -Todd

People do delete the AC from time to time, they keep the tensioner though. Never heard of someone removing the tensioner and being able to get the belt on w/o it. (I'd like to hear how you did it though, always good to have more information). Is that the lower and harder to reach tensioner or the easier of the two? Been a while since I toyed with your generation of motor.

As for which item is rattling, pull the belt off and wiggle/check each of the various items on the belt path. It could be something different than the water pump. Usually if something is making that much noise you can feel the item that is bad.

I went to o'riellys and got the AC Bypass Pulley for mine, cost i think around $30.00 maybe a lil more, and its been working like a dream, my ac compressor pulley siezed just after the warranty expired and i didnt feel like dropping another $300.00 into one when the line has a leak, id spend 500 just getting the ac working again or 30 to get by til it gets hot...

Id suggest getting one, put the tensioner back on, and see where you stand... and take a couple minutes and trace how the belt would be rotating the pulleys when the motor is running, going around the tensioner and the ac compressor it might have accidentally reversed the direction of 1 pulley and theres your problem... not saying you did it wrong but its something to double check

Question Update on new rattle...

I just back from my mechanic of 20+ years and he said its still something with the supercharger. I used synthetic gear oil which could be a problem since 90w is too heavy he recomended 5w30 which was my first idea but i second guessed it and here I am.

As for the guy that was wanting to know how I did it without the tensioner, I have to put it back. lol. He did confirm that the belts and pulleys are going the right way, so thats kool. but the way I got this one on was by putting on crank first, then to the SUPERCHARGER basically everything but the water pump until last then you just put some muscle in and slide the belt over the hump of the water pumps pulley... sounds tough but it will come to.

If I really was smart I would just get the "dead pulley" that replaces the a/c compresser but I really dont wanna mess with taking that out...it looks like alot of work yikes!

Does anyone know if there a certain way the dots on the turbine gears are suppose to go a certain way or if there was oil in the turbine housing when they took theirs out and if there should be? I'm still shooting for any ideas you guys might have.

I know its a shot in the dark for this one... but its worth checking into... take the belt off and rotate the pulley on the supercharger back and forth... .if there is play in it you may want to look into this

90W OMG...lol

GM supercharger oil is pretty thin stuff. I've heard of someone (was it you Sheff?) that said dealerships are now getting a bulletin to use Mobil 1 instead of ordering a large box of SC Oil.

Ok well I definitly already heard that the 90w was to heavy and to get the 5w30, but I swear this noise is coming from the water pump I KNOW FOR SURE its not the sc now...
I put my 530k6 belt on last night from the 525k6 that I think started all this krap. I also put the tensioner on but its not functional meaning that the serpintine tensioner is sitting on the groove side of the belt, I'm also going to take a pic today so I can give you guys a visual because I didnt really expect to see this many people chatting about it.
The 530k6 is the first pic ill take seeing how its on the car now. It is pretty loose and will be shocking you guys but I really don't want to buy another sc and I didnt get these problems until I put the 525k6 on.

When I have a noise and can't 100% nail it down or it seems like it'* from X and it might be from Y. I walk over and pull out the mechanics stethescope.

$10 at Harbor Freight
$15-20 at Sears or local parts stores.

Then...you'll know for sure.

If you're sure it'* not the supercharger, check the clutch faceplate on the A/C compressor. The thin metal plate at the front will rattle as the engine idles. You need to check each belt idler also. If it'* the water pump, replace it.
