Default 1993 SSE SC air compressor is bad.

I know I posted a similiar thread in general chat but i saw some reciepts in the car that i just bought and I see that the car uses R-134a. I was told that it uses R-12. I am confused. I want to get the right compressor for it next week. Is there anyway that I can telll? I dont have a manual for the car and I dont see anything visible under the hood.

Default R12 compressor is my vote.

I have a 94 Bonnie and I believe it is the first year with R134a. I'm pretty sure your Bonnie was R12 and then converted to R134a because it was leaking (R12 is $100 a lb around here) and R134 top-offs were cheap. This would explain the receipts in your car. Look at the fittings where you add freon, if it'* an R134 conversion they will have screw on adapters that make the fitting end larger. If I remember right R12 uses fitting ends that look like standard shrader (tire) valves and the R134 are about double in diameter.
So I suspect that you need to order the R12 compressor and refill the system with R134A...

If your 93 has been converted to 134a and the compressor goes out, It'* a better idea to install a 1994 compressor, Since it would be built for 134a.
