S1 L67 Exhaust manifold removal help

Well, I finally have some time to pull my exhaust manfolds, but I need to know if I need to remove anything to get them out. I have never really removed exhaust manifolds on a FWD, so help me out! Thanks! :)

The lift brackets on the front and back, oil dipstick, EGR pedastal, collar near the EGR pedastal, intake tube, possibly some of the throttle linkage for clearance. You might take out the spark plugs just to make sure you don't crack one off.

Be sure to soak all your bolts, nuts, and studs in PB Blaster before attempting to remove. The last thing you need is to have to pull the heads off for snapped bolt extraction or drill/tap. Be very liberal with that stuff where the crossover bolts onto the rear manifold.

Make sure the two studs that mate to the downpipe flange are removed from underneath or it'll fight you coming out.

They're fairly easy.

Should be pretty easy and quick.. Here's what WillWren mentioned in another post that relates to your topic.

I'm talking about 30 minutes from a running engine to both manifolds on the shop floor. 92-95 S1 manifolds are a snap to pull and install.

Absolutely. Pull the nuts off the exhaust studs FIRST, and break the downpipe loose, as well as the crossover. The front manifold comes out easy. Then remove whatever is in the way of the rear/crossover.

Piece of cake. 1 hour or less for a first-timer. Just remember those exhaust downpipe studs.

FWIW my 95 fought hard the first time and took longer than an hour. Basically got the mainfold out, but broken studs had to be removed and they were lovely..just lovely.
