Default WHEEL STUDS???

did they put 2 different lengths of wheel studs in these cars? im asking because i had a front wheel come off last week on my bonne. sheared off all 5 studs even with the rotor. my car came with steelies on it and about a year ago i put some alum wheels off a 95 GP on it. when i put the new studs in the other day, i noticed they dont even come to the end of the threads in the lug nuts(stock open end nuts). the other front is the same, but the rears come all the way out. i guess what im asking is, did they put longer studs in for alum wheels? heres a pic of the damage it did......

Somebody over-torqued that wheel.... And yes, You can get longer studs.

i changed that tire about 2 weeks before it happened. no impact, just me with a 4way. and no i didnt get stupid and monster torque them down. if someone else had changed the tire then i would agree that was it. just wondering why the fronts arent as long as the rears? id think theyd want the drive wheels a little more secure

Over torqueing, may have happened the time before that, or years ago.
Not necessarily just the last time. Breakage can depend on the amount of torque applied,
the condition of the lugs, the abuse wheel has been subjected to in it'* life...
( sledge hammer use by Neanderthal mechanics ? ?)
( improper techniques for installation of..... (ahem).... the wrong size lugs ?? ??)
( Impact wrench to install new lugs, instead of a Hydraulic press ?? ??)

Lots of reasons, for metal stress to cause a failure......... No clear answer.

And no, they don't necessarily have to break, the instant they are (over) torqued.
It'* kind of like..... the straw that broke the camel'* back. It could have even been
that little bump in the road, that you didn't notice... because the suspension absorbed it, that was
...... its....... "Last Straw"!

Had the same thing happen to me last October. 3 studs sheared right off. Had the car in for service the month prior and the mechanic did not properly torque the lugs down. Pic is from the Left front wheel.

from that pic it looks like the holes were elongated. could they have been that way before the mechanic messed with it? that will cause the lugs to come loose.

Negative. The lugs were properly torqued before it went in for service.

ok i guess i got someone wanting me pretty bad. driving on my way home today, hear a thumping noise in the front. guess what! left front tire has 4 lugs very loose and done broke off one stud! i swear if i find out who it is someones gettin hurt bad!
