Rough starting, gasoline odor
 

As a follow-up to my original question a few months ago (see http://www.bonnevilleclub.com/forum/...ic.php?t=17243)...

My rough starts have gotten more frequent, with them occuring just about every time I key the ignition forward to start the engine (unless it was just recently turned off). The starter will crank and crank for 5-10 seconds now, before the engine fires up. Sometimes it will die and require another crank, or it might rev itself up to keep going. I am also smelling the obvious odor of gasoline right after these starts. Is this just a result of the fuel injectors pumping in more gas than necessary, due to the excessive starting time? While inspecting the outside of my throttle body the other day, I noted that there are a couple fuel lines that I can pull off manually. Should those all be clamped? Just wanted to make sure I shouldn't be looking for another fuel leakage problem.

My throttle body and IAC will be cleaned in a few days (which will hopefully solve all of this), after my TB gasket is sent to Advance Auto from another regional store. TIA -[/url]

had the same problem.. it ended up being a pin hole leak in the like coming out of the fuel pump on top of the tank :?

A bad fuel pressure regulator will cause that too.

Any way to test for these things? Let me also say that I've never had a 'check engine' light, or gotten any codes from these problems... so there doesn't appear to be any sensors that are catching it.

scotty, Are you sure those are fuel lines? I would check fuel rail pressure. Also check the vacum lines at throttle body & fuel pressure regulator intact.

No, I'm not sure... :? They had traces of gasoline in/around them, but is that common of vacuum lines?

Also (for smellbird or anyone else that knows), is the Fuel Pressure Regulator the same as the Fuel Injection Pressure Regulator? I'm seeing both on the partsamerica.com website.

Just had my fuel pressure regulator replaced the other day. Costed me about 60 dollars from the local car quest.
