Noise--was when turning, now when coasting?
I have my '97 Bonneville SSE making a odd noise. It was only doing it when turning right, a kind of rattle-clunk type of noise. Now it does it when I'm coasting, however when I push the gas or brake it stops. It continues when I take my foot off the pedals.
CV joint? Wheel bearing?

im betting left wheel bearing, jack up your front end and set it on jack stands. Grip the left front at 12 o'clock and 6 o'clock and push up and down to feel for slop. Any free play is too much.

rattle clunk sounds more like a CV joint. If it was a bearing it would make a wurring sound. Look at your joints for cut boots. And if that is the problem I would just replace the whole axle

I hate putting things off, but I'm unable to put it up and look at anything until Saturday. Also at bad timing, I've got a film gig, about a 70 mile round trip, Friday.
Can I make it, or is this going to be a cancel the trip thing?

If it'* a bad cv-joint, I recommend not driving it until it is replaced. At highway speeds, I would hate to see what a disconnected shaft would do.
Reach behind each wheel and grab the shaft and try to yank it around. If it moves, its bad.

Drove it the about 70 miles yesterday with no incident, used town roads just in case.
Jacked it up this morning, no play in the front wheels and CV boots don't appear to be cracked or anything. It'* been very rainy lately though and my view wasn't the best.
May have to take it somewhere to have them diagnose it for me. The idea was brought up to me that maybe I just need to re-grease/lube the bearings?
