Rotors won't come off
 

94 Bonneville. Decided to change the rotors just for the heckuvit after replacing the brakes. Purchased brand new ones, but when a friend and I got to them, neither one of the front rotors just come off as they are supposed to. There are no visible retainer clips, set screws, or anything of the kind. I have a Haynes repair manual; on the part about replacing the rotors, it says to just take off the caliper, pull the old rotor off and put the new one on. It says nothing about the rotors not wanting to come off. Someone suggested they were rusted on, so I went at them with a mallet and lubricants (WD40, brake parts cleaner, pb something,etc.). Hours later the rotors still won't come off! Any suggestions?

if the whole caliper assembly is off they should come right off.

Did you try PB blaster?

They should slide right off. keep working at it, tap around the circumference with the mallet, they should free up eventually.

Saturate the hub where it meets the rotor with PB Blaster. Don't bother with WD40 since it simply evaporates and won't penetrate/creep. Let it sit for a couple hours. Then, as suggested, tap on the outer rim of the rotors in a circular motion with a mallet. They'll eventually work their way off.

Also if that does not work, Take your hands and grasp the rotor while in neutral, and spin it back and forth, jerking as you go each way. That also helps free it. And yes, use PB Blaster, it is #2 man's best friend next to Duck tape. ;)

Right, just keep on spraying that hub with the PB Blaster and smacking the crap on the rotor :hammer: If all else fails.....use a bigger hammer.

Also, I would strongly recommend you replace your front brake lines at this time. They are probably long over due for some new rubber.

Replace brake lines because they need new rubber? Huh?

The rubber lines to the calipers can over time break down and a flap of rubber can keep the brake fluid from returning to the master cylinder.

ps...I'm all for the bigger hammer usage.

Use a dead blow hammer. Works almost everytime.
