Default ALARM LIGHT??

My '94 SSEi has the factory alarm, and there is the red light on the center of the dash by the windshield. From the day the car was bought, this light did not flash. Are they all just dummy lights? Or is it disconnected/burnt out. If so, how do you go about fixing it? The plastic covering doesn't unscrew, because i alredy tried. It'* really crappy because i think it would be nice if it was to flash in order to tell people that the car is protected by an alarm..

Your alarm light is the "security" dummy light on the IP. The light you're talking about is the solar radiation sensor for the climate control.

Really? What does this thing do? It looks exactly like the blinking red light that the alarm would use in any other car. Like in chryslers. All of them with an alarm have that blinking red dot in the center of the dash by the windshield. Oh well though.

So yes, what does this thing do??

It measures the intensity of sunlight hitting the car in order to adjust the automatic air conditioning system to compensate. Blasting hot sunlight will crank the A/C to a higher level than, say, nighttime on a hot evening.

As for a security light, the factory system doesn't have a red LED type that blinks as you describe, only an amber Security reminder light that blinks at you when your door is open, and doubles as an error indicator if there'* a fault with the security or VATS systems.

I added a red 12-volt LED to the gauge cluster of my SSEi for this reason: Give the potential bad guys an idea that the car _did_ have a security system before they try to break in. It'* not directly connected to the actual security system but that'* not important. It'* wired across switched and unswitched hot circuits in the fusebox so that it comes on when I switch the car off. (Connect its positive lead to the always-hot circuit; connect its negative lead to a switched-hot circuit, which will serve as a ground when the car is off.)

This article: http://www.bonnevilleclub.com/forum/...pic.php?t=3318

...will give you all the details about it. If you don't want to go pulling your gauge cluster to install it, just pick a spot elsewhere where it'* visible from most locations outside the car. (e.g. the round filler piece at the back end of the console)

On the 94-99, enable the Theftlock on the radio to get a blinking red light on the dashbaord (radio)
