Removing Seat Covers
Ok... I have a question on how you remove the back part of the driver and passenger seat... just the leather cover. Seats are the 9 way. I would like to swap the driver and passenger ones since they look to be both the same. if someone has instructions or pictures, Iwould appretiate them a lot. Thanks.

Jimmy, you have to detach the seat cover at the base of the seat back under the netting pocket. Hard to describe, but you'll see it if you cram yourself under there. Then peel the back upwards.
|
and they are very hard to get back on... at least they were for me...
|
On my '92, parts of the seat back were fastened to the core with velcro and when I got close to the top, I had to pull the headrest out. I had to make a tool to keep the spring out of the way on one side while I used a screwdriver on the other.
Getting the thing back on is a lot like stuffing a sausage! I'll bet someone here knows the correct way ( or at least a better way) to remove the headrest. :?: |
Jimmy.... if you take them off... take pix..... lots of pix....
|
Jimmy if you are good at it...please come swap mine!

Here's some pics and descriptions. Towards the bottom of the page and the second page:

Yay! Randman does it again! All I would have had to do was turn the sleeve 90 degrees. DOH!
Thanks, Randy. |
Might just swapping the seats be easier?

Maybe we'll find some on Sat. |
ok... Was thinking about my seat and looking at the pictures I have. Can I just remove the back of the passenger seat and have it fit the driver's seat? This seems like it will be easier than swapping the covers... Otherwise, I might be taking a trip to Mass...
Basically, I want to get the seatback cover of the passenger seat on the driver's seat back. I don't care how either. Even if I just switch the seats themselves (I know the tracks would have to be switched) |
That was actually asked before. I suppose it can be done that way but I'm a little afraid of that shock looking thing that connects to the seat back. keep in mind that the seat frame pics in the link above are NOT the AL7 seats so there might be some differences.
If you swap the whole seats, there will only be one snaffu that I can think of: There is a little fabric loop on the inside (console side) that retains the seatbelt latch. If you swapped, the loop would now be on the outside (door side) and the seatbelts would not be held in place on the seat. |
well you could just swap the leather seat backs, and leave the bottoms alone, that way the seatbelt loop would be fine and you would have a good leather seatback
|
Merlin-
i hope you dont plan for the seat covers to just pull off on ur 91.... as the leather covers and pads are hog ringed on with over 100ish per seat.... |
