removing motor mount
It is another beautiful day in California, that I am spending working on the Bonneville. I am replacing the water pump today. (Oh joy) I would like to thank jr’s3800 for his white paper in the tech forum. I am having a problem removing the motor mount however. How hi am I suppose to raise or support the motor?

What are you using to lift the motor or want to use to lift the motor?

In the tech paper they said use a floor jack with wood so that is what I have done
|
That's what most use. Make sure that it is longer than the oil pan is wide and it will support the weight evenly ;)

Well thanks to who ever wrote the paper. So do I have to lift the motor to chanage the water pump? The only book I found was a Hayes and they showed "how to change the water pump" with the motor out of the car. Not a lot of help to me. any replys and help would be appreciated.

Here is the info I was looking for. Hope this help someone else.
For 1992-95 vehicles, remove the torque axis mount, as follows: Use a suitable engine support fixture and lifting bracket to raise the engine slightly to take the weight off of the engine mounts. Remove the through-bolt from the torque axis (front) engine mount. Lift the engine with the support fixture until the power steering reservoir touches the strut tower cross brace. Loosen the bottom two bolts on the torque axis (front) engine mount. Remove the A/C line clip and top two bolts on the torque axis engine mount, then remove the mount. Remove the 2 bolts and nut attaching the engine torque axis mount bracket assembly to the front of the engine. |
Ok.. the motor stays in the car for the swap
Because the torque axis mount is the only support at that end of the motor.. and you need to remove the mount to gain access to the WP.. you need to support the motor a bit. Position your floor jack w/board on it under the oil pan and bring the jack/board up and touch the pan.. don't put any pressure on. Then undo the main bolt of the TA mount. Apply light pressure to the motor with the jack and work the bolt out. Now.. the jack is holding the motor and you may remove the body side of the TA mount safely. Remember..for the motor side, you remove the power steering pump via the two 13mm bolts through it's own pulley. There is no need to remove the pulley on the PS pump. ;) |
