Releasing Fuel Pump Pressure to Change Fuel Filter on 94SE
I'm going to replace the fuel filter on my 94SE since I haven't done it in about 6 years.
How do I release the fule pump pressure before I remove the old filter? Thanks, Mike |
i believe that you just need to unscrew the gas cap

Pull the fuel pump fuse and let the car run 'till it runs out of gas. Then you should have very little gas and no pressure in the lines...making it a lot easier to change the filter.

I don't know how it is for you S1+S2 guys, but on my LN3, there is a schrader valve on the fuel rail. Grab a paper towel, and a screw driver. Wrap the papertowel around the screwdriver, and push in. There isn't a whole lot of fuel that comes out, however it comes out with high pressure, so you won't want it spraying you. I have removed the fuel lines at the fuel rail using this procedure, and no fuel has ever come out at high pressure. The pulling of the fuel pump fuse didn't work for me.. so I just tried this idea.

I would suggest a rag rather than a paper towel. Other than that, that's the way I do it. Just bleed it out at the schreader valve on the fuel rail. It is under about 40-50 psi so don't pull the filter without depressuizing the fuel line unless you don't mind a gas bath.

You're gonna get a Gasoline Shower no matter, what, however the schrader valve will be your best bet. You don't want something to get goofed up on the fuel line when it opens @ PSI. However the Fuse trick is IMO the best method...

pressure
When I did my Series II upper intake there was very little pressure in the rail when I
releived it. Just trickled out a few drops. |
Yeah... When I popped the rail off there was about five-six cups that came out. Relieve pressure first.
