Red hot manifolds..

I noticed that after a spirited drive in the bonnie, when I pop the hood, the front manifold is glowing red, not super bright, but definitely noticeable. I think it might be because of it running lean? I'm not positive though. My IAT sensor was unplugged because of my custom CAI, but I plugged it back in and it still does it, but just idles higher. I have brand new plugs and wires gapped to the right spec., new fuel filter, new air filter... Any ideas how to correct this? I'd rather be running rich :)

I don't have a cat, so I doubt theres a restriction there :) and it's too old to pull codes with a scantool from, i just have to jump the 2 terminals to pull codes. Could be timing, but thats computer controlled...

Well if yours was an EGRless NA 3800, I'd say it was normal! But since yours is SC'd then not too sure. A restricted exhaust would cause this to happen though.

I agree with the above -- sounds like your exhaust is plugged up somewhere. Regardless, get it looked at ASAP, you don't want to cause any super-expensive damage.

Look for a bend or kink in the exhaust, and consider have the muffler checked.

Well... using the classic GM trick to pull codes, I got this:
code 31: Park/Neutral switch
code 36: Transaxle shift problem
code 43: Electronic spark control circiut or Knock sensor problem
And also Codes 57 and 58.. I don't know what those are. The Park/Neutral switch I kind of know since my reverse lights come on in Neutral and do nothing in reverse. The Transaxle shift problem I also know about, it's a rebuilt trans and something is messed up with the Overdrive that it has to go back for. Code 43, however, seems to be a likely culprit.. I might do the knock sensor just because. and I have to do the oil pressure switch too. I'm running colder plugs and I did the boost-bypass mod, would that affect anything negatively?

well code 43 knock sensor doesnt that make the car run sluggish? and get horrible gas mileage?

1994ta 02-08-2004 08:04 PM

it's definitely not as fast as it should be with the few mods it had. I can't hold a candle to my buddy's SHO. And yeah, mileage isn't the best either :?

I've got that code two. I thought maybe it was a bad harmonic balancer causing false KR. Where is the knock sensor and how hard is it to replace?

GAMEOVER 02-08-2004 10:30 PM

knock sensor i think is on the back side of th block its just a matter of getting to it
