Rear Strut Replacement
 

Howdy Doods,
new here and got just a few questions, i have read alot here bout the regular monroe strut replacement, looked around and i need the upper strut bearing(mount), the strut, maybe new hardware, and this AK-29 kit. AK-29 kit is an airline adapting kit? Is the AK-29 kit necessary? Once done Disconnect the CCR modual under the the driver seat? Came across info that said refer to GM ADMIN MSG# VSS20000025 ? Any ideas bout this GM info fellas? Had a friend tell me on the most Caddy's he has to splice in a wire harness and relay to avoid light on dash, is that required for my 97SSEi Bonny? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Sorry for the long 1 :?

You may have the Ride control lights in the Pod light up... But thats it..

You will not need the AK29 kit.. You already have the Load Level suspension... All you have to do is install the struts and hook up the air lines you already have.. ;)

Awesome, thanks for the info and fast reply, quicker than Gm tech services. But im thinking that the load leveling system is that pump that kicks on for 30 to 40 second after you start the car? is making a terrible noise while its engaged, possibly due to the fact of the bad struts on there now with holes in them like the pictures ive seen in the tech notes here....good greeef more fixing to do

well being that you have a 1997, your pump is parked on the passenger side rear not to far away from the passenger rear lower control arm... So you should get a good whrrrring from it.. Hope its not on its deathbed tho..

Yes New rear struts will help.... And if you are using Monroes you may like them more than you did the CCR struts anyhow...lol

Well I did the shocks today, more comfort and better ride but i found that either my pump is dead, or the sensor wires that were on the top of the old struts(my dad ripped the wires out of the connectors) need to be fixed? The New sensatrac strut doesnt have a place for the connectors anyways

You're confusing CCR (computer command ride) with ELC (electronic level control). You should have purchased the Sensa's with the rear leveling option (air option). Your suspension was calculated and designed for this function and you should retain it.

Losing the CCR (top wires) is normal. Ditch it.

Did you connect air to the struts to retain the ELC, and if not, do the struts have the connections? If not, you purchased the wrong struts and will have uneven handling.

Sorry for the confusion doods, was late when i posted last msg, the sensa-trac struts i got are the air struts, i reconnected the air lines yes but the pump (the one that runs for 30 sec after car starts) doesnt kick on when i turn the car on is it supposed to? But as far are the connecter that wouldnt go was the CCR wire adapter thing. Any idea of a price on the pump. But changed front brakes, rotors, calipers and rear struts. With some PB Blaster, the job all told took 5 hours with the occasional smoke break.

Let's not jump on a bad pump just yet. I wouldn't expect it to run very much if at all, considering you have new struts. Mine doesn't hardly run at all unless I load up the trunk.

Open your trunk and push the ON button for your trunk inflator by the trunk latch. Does the compressor come on? If so, while it's running, pull back the carpet in the trunk on the rear seat BACK, on the right hand side near the right rear strut tower base. See that valve with the black connector? Pull that off with the utility inflator running.

Do the struts fill, lifting the back of the car? If yes, re-connect the selector valve and turn the inflator off. There's nothing wrong.

on the 97 , it must initialize on startup. if it doesn't it is either a bad level switch(this controls the pump), bad compressor assembly, or no power. grounding the yellow wire on the level switch will engage the pump, this is an easy test.
