well my altenator is hooped. its still on warrenty so i have to attempt to take it out today. im not a genius with cars and pretty new to them actually but i read and try to learn.

my question is how do i remove it it doesnt look hard but how would i release the tension on the belts? and then is it easy to unbolt? ill have the tools i know that jsut never had the exprience watching somone do it so im kinda jsut attacking it. ill be attempting this...this afternoon so any help quick would be good. all i knwo is im not paying 65 bucks to remove it by some mechanic.

This is an easy job to do. Shouldn't take you too long at all.

First take the belt off by loosening the tensioner on it. This can be done by by putting a socket or wrench on the tensioner bolt and applying preassure to it. It will compress the spring in it allowing slack in the belt, then just slide the belt off the alt.

Disconnect the battery (for safety reasons). Then disconnect the wires from the alt (1 snap connector and one socket sconnection). If you don't disconnect the battery you will probably start arching the wires over to everything in the engine bay, not a real good thing.

Then you can pull the two bolts that hold the alt in place. The alt should just slide out.

Let me know if you got any questions on this. It is pretty easy and I doubt you will have much trouble with it.

If you follow the belt you will find a smaller (usually black) pulley that doesn't seem to hook to anything. It just idles in place when the belt spins. I have an */C engine so mine is in a little differnt location and such otherwise I could tell you the exact spot. It is probably on the belt between the Alt and the crank or water pump.

The top pic is what the pulley looks like, only it has a bolt going thru it. The pulley itself is actually spring loaded and offset from it'* connection to the engine block.
http://www.zzperformance.com/zzp/pro...ent_pulley.htm
Find a socket or wrench that fits tightly over the bolt going thru it. Put the wrench on bolt so the handle points away from it'* mount. Then pull the socket away from the belt. This won't turn the bolt but will instead compress the spring giving slack to the belt. The pulley will physically be moving with the socket. Once you get the belt off you can let go of the socket (slowly) and let the pulley rest again until ready to put the belt back on.

I'll be hanging around a while if you got anymore questions or needs some more help.
