I absolutely love my 95' SSEi - have 157K highway miles and am the 2nd owner. I blew the head gasket which in turn let anti-freeze into the crank. Replaced head gaskets, shaved heads, replaced timing chain cover gasket ( chain looked brand new) and drove it 50 miles before the lower end went. My mechanic tells me to walk away.....what are my options, I don't have a lot to spend right now? Miss my baby!

When you say the lower end went, I assume you mean crank or rod bearings.

At this point, since it has a lot of miles on it, I would look around for a used engine, maybe out of a wreck or something. You could either use the whole engine, or maybe just the main block.

Another option is to buy either a new or rebuilt short block and transfer all your other items from the existing engine.

Thanks for the quick replies. The car has been serviced and taken care of per schedules, I watch the guages religiously, and it was not running hot. I was using the boost to pass a slow car and noticed a drop in the oil pressure. I shut her down right away and noticed oil in the coolant jug. There was a slight knock, was hoping that I could fix it but after 50 miles I'm sure I'd spun a bearing. The motor froze, but after a day of rest was able to turn it over and start it. I am looking for a motor, but I'm getting lots of conflicting info. Could sure use some help on what will work/not work. Thanks again.

Oh you had a loss of oil pressure. That is a bad thing. I guess you should have inspected the lower end in that case.

Hey jr'* 3800.......Thanks for the info, and for making me feel welcome. To date I've managed to find two motors. 1) 63K w/o SC for $750.00 2) 27K remanuf w/o SC for $800.00. I'm not sure which is the best option, and are these decent prices? Both have the same warranty, and came outta wrecked Buicks (95'*). Any thoughts? Thanks to all who responded, your great.

I think you are sayint that these are Supercharged engines, but without the supercharger correct? I'd get either one of these engines... It all depends on how well these engines were taken car of... But none the less, 63K on a 95 is quite low as far as milage is concerned.. And you should get plenty out of the engine... Anytime we can help, we're glad to...

Was the 95 Buick that you saw a Park Avenue Ultra? If so that the one you want to get. Its the same motor you have, a Series I supercharged 3800 and with the same 225hp 275 lb ft torque. Go get it!
