How hard is it to replace shocks and struts on a 99 bonneville?

not hard if you are mechanically inclined.
there are plenty of writeups i did it my 1st time and everything went smoothly.

if you read a writeup/opened up a hanes manual you should have an idea about how hard it is...

Both ends of your rig have struts if it is anything like my "95 Olds. The rears are real easy 'cause the coil springs are inboard of the struts. The stut goes thru the front coil spring so a spring tool is a must. These can be "rented" from Auto Zone/Advance/ O'reilly for free. You have to pay up front for the tool but they give you your money back when you return it. be real careful around a compressed coil spring. If it comes loose, it can cause some real damage. Remember, once you are finished, you have to get all 4 wheels aligned. I just did all my struts and the difference is unbelieveable.

Just a suggestion, do the ball joints while you are at it and inspect the ends of the control arms and tie rods on the rack and pinion. The ends may need replacing also. Better to do it while you have it tore apart.

Good Luck!

Hi I was wondering which model number struts and shocks would be needed for a 99 Boneville SE?

Any easy way to find out without taking them out?

Also, any good instructions for replacing them? Obviously I'd have them checked out by a professional but I'm fairly mechanically inclined and I think I could do the job myself, vs. almost a thousand dollars for a pro to replace them for me.

I installed new struts on my 2002 bonneville and it has a clunking noise over medium or any larger bumps.

I had the car aligned and also replaced a sway bar link.

Any ideas on why this is clunking?
