Default New owner 98 Bonneville questions

Hello all,
a few questions from a new owner
the fuel pump is really loud - is that normal?
my car was located on Dauphin Island near the Gulf of Mexico and has a few rust problem areas - is there anything i can put on these spots to stop the rust without painting the whole car?
there is a roaring in the rear sometimes and I imagine I need to grease all the wheel bearing soon - any other ideas on salt

Default hello

Hello and welcome.
Aftermarket fuel pumps sometimes are loud. Best bet is OEM pump motor and filters.
Roaring in the rear could be a cupped tire if its happening around corners, other possibilities are bad rear bearings.

The bearings are part of a sealed hub. The hub has to be replaced if it starts to make noise.

Ernie, you didn't say what year or trim level your car is, but if the fuel pump is oroginal OEM and making a lot of noise, it may be getting ready to fail.

Now might be a good time to plan, purchase and replace that pump.

Give us some more details including your year and trim level so we can maybe help you determine if it'* time to replace the one you have.

My experience is quite different. Mechanic buddy agrees that if you have a loud fuel pump, 90% of the time it is original. GM pumps are known for getting noisy over the years. Check fuel pressure, if it'* w/in spec...don't worry.

Thanks for all the ideas. My Bonneville is a 1998 SE. Man I wish I had a Supercharged motor but sadly not the case. I gotta say I'm impressed with the engine through. It is strong and I recently sold a 98 Trans Am and it was mighty fast but the Bonneville is very respectful - my daughter just turned 16 and she was eyeing the Trans Am.
Thanks for any help.
