Oil pan gasket leak
I have a 97 Bonneville that I changed the oil pan gasket on about 2 years ago. It is now leaking again. Does GM have a mod for it so when I put a new one on it doesn't start leaking again?

im not sure what you mean by a mod, but i would only assume that the proper torque was not applied. but are you certain its coming from the pan?

I've done mine twice in the 9 years I've owned it. I don't think that'* a problem that GM needs to do something about, unless the 97 is in someway different than my 95.

alot of "oil pan" leaks is actually a leaking/loose end plate in the rear of the engine. you have to pull the tranny to get to it. My 97 always had a wet oil pan, when my tranny was out for rebuild we found that plate wasn't even finger tight and the gasket was cracked. Since the gasket replacement my oil pan has been dry.

my series 1 had 130k on it and was fine. the only reason i changed it was cuz i changed the timing chain and dropped the pan for coolant.
but idk if there is a problem with the ser 2 oil pans. what is wrong with them?

The windage tray on the Series II engines with the stamped steel oil pan uses a Nylon carrier with a silicone embedded gasket... Generally this windage Tray/Gasket will be replaced over the life of the car at least once...
But its also possibe that the rear main cover can start to leak and need a new gasket or retorquing...
I'd say its possible for the rear plate to be leaking..... Also its a short possibility, but maybe the pans sealing surface is not straight?
You'll have to do some more investigating to find the leak....

I always torque mine from the center out like you would a cylinder head or intake. Otherwise, you can slightly warp the mating surface and develope a leak
