Back-up Lamp Sockets
I didn't bother to do a search on this one, so if it has already been ridden into the ground just let me know.....
I've been without back-up lights for a while, and I finally took the trunklid tail light assembly apart to find out why. Turns out the whole thing had water sloshing around in it and the rubber seal that goes across the top was unglued. Thanks to the water problem, both back-up lamps had rotted out of their sockets! The bulbs were just rolling around inside the assembly. The sockets were beyond repair, as the metal contact pieces inside them were terribly corroded. So I needed new back-up lamp sockets.
Come to find out, you can't just buy new sockets at a parts store, or even at a dealership. GM set it up so that the back-ups are part of a whole harness assembly you have to buy, which costs $58 per side. And of course the dealership wouldn't disassemble a kit just to get me the sockets I needed. Long story short, you have to go to a junkyard and get old sockets from another car. It was only $15 for the pair of them, but I was a little miffed that you can't find the back-up sockets at an Autozone or Napa. Oh well.... I'll have it fixed on Saturday. Just a little irritating :? .

I know what ya mean. I want an extra set of brake light sockets for an upcoming project. Finding just the sockets is a bit of a chore...

I've got a few more questions regarding this situation....
I haven't changed the sockets yet because it seems the light bar across the bottom of the trunk lid is still getting water inside it. Does anybody else'* trunk lid drip water into the trunk when you open it on a wet day? Mine does, and I think the drips are coming out the seams of the light bar. There is a rubber seal across the top of the light bar assembly, and mine had come off, but I reattached it with some silicone adhesive. I thought it would fix the problem, but there still seems to be water dripping out of that light bar assembly. Any ideas? I'll try to get pics if I can, but if anyone knows my problem offhand please chime in. Thanks.

Do the '93s have the light assembly across the bottom of the trunklid? That'* where the water seems to be dripping from on mine. Unless it'* due to the curvature of the trunk and it'* just trickling down off the light assembly. I'm still a little apprehensive to put in new sockets if they're just going to get waterlogged again.

If you really think it'* the light bar, it couldn't hurt to dry it all up, and silicone around the seam where the pieces join up. Mine drips like you mention, buit I've never noticed it being from there. Usually seems like it'* coming from around the weatherstripping.

You can get harnesses for all of those. Trick is finding a corresponding bulb harness that matches. NO ONE has a 2057 bulb harness anywhere for example, but an 1157 works.
