Problems Arise in my 93 Se
 

Hey everyone, im new to posting here but ive been viewing the forum for sometime. Great Info!

I bought a 93 bonne a few months ago, it only had about 40k miles on it. Ive run into few probelms recently. First off a bout two weeks ago the break like went on and chimed. I check the fluid level and natually it was low so i added some to bring it back to level. within a week it did it again. After searching the board i found that is could be the master cylinder that has been leaking. Heres a pic,

Leaking where it bolts on. Hopefully thats all it is because i think i can do a swap out myself and would save me money.

Second, my enegine coolant was almost empty. No warning has ever come on in the car. While looking in the resovoir there was a oragne color gunk in there. I opened up the radiatorcap and this is what i found -

Any ideas? Ive searched the forum and found that it could be oil getting into the coolant and may have to change a gasket but im not sure.

any input would be great.

flush out that coolant (or whatever it is) asap.

That looks like Dex or one of it's substitutes put in with remnents of proper green.

I agree. Shoddy maintenance, and a bad mix of incompatible coolant types. Flush that system ASAP and put in a 50/50 mix of the old style green Ethylene Glycol antifreeze or the Prestone 'mixes with any color'.

Your NEW master cylinder will need to be bench-bled. You need to measure yours to see how long it is from the face of the booster to the end of the cast housing. It's either 8" or 10". You need to get the same length replacement (and it doesn't make any sense why some cars got which, so measure first).

Seriously consider parking the car until you replace that MC. And the coolant is bad enough for the same warning.

Hm I'm trying to avoid a similar coolant problem here.

I just bought this car at the beginning of the month, and the previous owner told me that the coolant was low, so he went ahead and topped it off. He left the empty bottle in the trunk so I knew what kind he used.

It was Dex Long Life. I just happened to open the radiator cap the other day and noticed that the residual coolant was green (assuming Proper green?) and that there was a drop or so of orange floating on top of the green. This strikes me as an incompatible combination. Is there any way I could drain the res tank without flushing the entire system or do you think it's too late? The coolant in the tank looks brand new and clean, but the Reservoir is full of orange! :( :( :(

(Note: prev owner was an older gentleman who didn't drive it much, I assume he didn't know the difference)

Hey guys, what does oil in the coolant look like? I've no experience there. BlackBabylon, for grins, while your under the hood, take a look at your oil on the dipstick and make sure it looks normal (not mixed with coolant).

Coolant/water in the oil will look like a milkshake. Globs of orange stuff is Dex sludge.

Dex sludge can be fixed by getting a full coolant system flush and replacement with good ol' green.

Water in the oil needs the oil drained IMMEDIATLY and the cause found at the same time. Likely culprits are LIM gaskets.
