Whirring noise at 30MPH
I just got new front struts and front tires today. I got a 4-wheel alignment and also had the front left bearing replaced. (They soaked me for $350 for the bearing but the car needed it and I didn't have time to try doing it myself.) The ride is MUCH quieter now.
I have noticed a new noise now - perhaps because the rest of the ride is so quiet. I think it is coming from the front right but I can't be totally sure.
-It is not noticeable unless you listen very carefully with the windows shut.
-It is a "whirring" noise at a constant frequency
-It only happens at 30MPH
-The volume increases slightly when I step on the gas, but it'* still there if I let up off the gas
-If I shift into neutral and coast at 30MPH, the noise goes away
Any ideas?

If the whine is dependant on vehicle speed it has to be something from the torque converter back.
Check your transmission fluid level and tire pressures.

Correction - the sound DOES go away if I let up off the gas.
A few more updates:
-I wouldn't say it'* a whining sound. It'* a whirring like the kind of sound you'd expect to hear from the drivebelt. It has a slight rattle to it. I had a water pump bearing go bad once and it sounds like that.
-It ONLY happens between 25MPH and 30MPH, and is most noticeable at 30MPH.
-At 30MPH if I shift into neutral and step on the gas, I do NOT hear the sound.
-It is definitely coming from the front of the car
-Tranny fluid is pink and at the correct level. It was changed 6 months ago.
-Tire pressure is 32 PSI in all tires.

I'm going to take a guess that it'* your fuel pump. My 95 made this noise all the time under the exact conditions you explain. I don't think there'* anything wrong with it.

sound like tranny whine...mine does the same thing around that speed....there is a computer update to correct this problem....i found out about it on a computer re-flash website....i guess its caused by excessive tranny pump fluid pressure at that speed....
