Power Window Problem
 

Problem is in a 1997 Bonneville, Drivers side power window would not go down at all before, and appeared to not work at all. Now when I try and put the window down, it goes down just a few inches, and makes a loud noise.?? Can anyone help me diagnose this. Also, if I do have to take the door apart, what exactly is involved, is it something the average mechanic can tackle??? Thanks

If you go all the way to pulling the complete window works out of the door, there is a spring that has to be unloaded, and GM specifies a special tool for that... I haven't done it, so don't know what else might be used safely...

But if you just need to replace the drive motor, there are no special skills required....been there myself several times...

Unfortunately, your problem sounds more serious that that....

Still, you should be able to take the door panel off by yourself, and at least have a look.
