Possible UIM/LIM problem

This is a 1992 SE engine VIN code L. Bypass hose adapter under the alternator that goes to the intake and water pump broke resulting loss of coolant and engine overheating. This adapter was plastic!! Anyway I may be in for one hell of a repair job. Suspect it is drinking coolant. Will know more after I get back from work today.

Replace the plastic fitting with a steel fitting from any local store. I doubt you could even find a plastic replacement these days.

Get your LIM gaskets. You'll probably need them. Your UIM will not be a problem, that started with the 95 L36 plastic UIM. Even the plastic L27 UIM (which you probably don't have) isn't a problem.

Your UIM should be aluminum.

Possible UIM/LIM problem

I may be out of the woods! Replaced this fitting with a steel fitting and perfromed coolant system pressure test. Found that both the adapter and hose were still dripping coolant. Replaced bypass hose and used sealant on threads of adapter and performed presssure test again to 15PSI and had no pressure drop at all. Will drive car for the rest of the week keeping close eye on temp gauge, fluid levels in resevoir and oil color and level.

Glad to hear that.. the gaskets on the older ones weren't as common as the L36 and 96+ L67's however they are still gaskets and could go.
