Air Compressor works even Ignition is off
Hi,
i have the problem that the Air Compressor for the Ride Level works even when the ignition is off. so every morning is the battery empty.
is there a place where i should start my search first?
also everytime i turn the ignition on it bings for 20 seconds to remind me about the parking brake, my other bonneville doesn't do that, so is there also a way to cancel that?
Thanks for help and greetz from Germany

Yes, in the 96+ years GM took that power supply from direct to battery and put it on a ignition controlled relay. That way it can't run if the ignition is off and it won't drain the battery. Take a look at the wiring schematics and just swap that over to an ignition controlled.

thanks!
good to know! but my other bonne doesn't do that or i haven't heard it till yet.
are maybe the shocks bad because it pumps every ~ 10 minutes for 5-10 sec.
but it also works when i turn the ignition on and wait the time like on my other bonne.
and do you have a clue what'* wrong with the park brake signal?

lol, yeah sure, but my other bonne doesn't do this, only when i use the parking brake and go into a gear.
i only want to find out the difference so that i can bring both to the same level.
is it normal that it bongs directly after i turn on the ignition?

ahh, yeah, sorry.
both are 93 SSEI Bonneville, beside the color there isn't any difference between both cars.
and i checked now the wiring diagram and is it right that i should swap the orange cable which goes to fuse 12?
also in the book stands that only the lowering does run hot all the time, but not the compressor itself. this should only work with the ignition turned on, if i understand this right.
i found this information in the 93 service manual book 2

The best answer to fix the leveling is to find out why it is running all the time. Usually, the rear struts are the biggest culprit. My rear struts are absolutely shot, but my leveling pump doesn't come any where close to running my battery down. You may also want to try and shed weight of the rear end in the mean time <IE junk in the trunk, stuff in the back seat, etc>. The Bonneville should set level completely empty.

C'mon RJ, they changed it because of small leaks etc. I agree that the system can/should be fixed for the leaks, but also that the relay should be run through the ignition.
Can you post a pic of the schematic.
