PN for fuel tank sending unit
 

Can someone tell me what I need to replace if my gas gauge is not working right? I know it is not the gauge, so what do I need to replace in the tank? Do I need to replace the whole fuel pump, or is there something else that needs to be taken out? BTW, this is on the 97. A part number would be great.

Sender unit, without supercharger, 97-99 ONLY: 25180048

I'd do some troubleshooting first. Someone with a 97 FSM wanna walk him through it?

Mike you should probably pm randman1, no only does he have the book. But he's also going through fuel gauge issues and has all the info fresh at the moment.

I've got the same issue. Guage is dead. Was told it's the sender. Maybe not, though. Can someone with a book for a 99 walk me through it, too?

Should be identical for both you guys. 97-99 used the same sender.

here is what happens with mine. The needle will stay past full for about the first half of the tank. Then it starts to move down until it hits about the halfway mark, where it stops. It will not go past the halfway mark until the tank is about bone dry. Even then, it will only show empty when the car is parked and not moving. When I put it in gear and move the gauge will slowly move back up to halfway. Does this sound like the problem you are having randman1 and vital49?

Mike it almost sounds like you need to reposition your gauge needle. Haro has done this one...

Boy, that sounds very similar to psycho_725653's problem in this thread: http://www.bonnevilleclub.com/forum/...ic.php?t=33422 but he has a 96. Is this the original tank, sending unit and cluster in yout car??

The problem I'm having with giving you specific information is the FSM is giving inconsistent information. On one page it says that the sender has a range of 40 ohms empty and 250 ohms full but on the troubleshooting page it says to test using 0 ohms empty and 90 ohms full. Choppers checked with Mitchell on Demand and it also says 0/90. I've asked other Gearheads to take a look at it just in case I'm missing something.

My problem is opposite of yours: the gauge never goes over 1/4 tank. Keep in mind that I have a 97 cluster in my 93. Maybe we should trade clusters :?:

Well, my issue is different than both of yours!

My guage is ALWAYS on full! LOL. It just lays buried past the "F" mark. The only exception to that is if I really top off the tank. Then, the guage will go all the way to empty...then bounce back to full. That occurs for the first 50 miles of a topped off tank...then it goes back to rest at full! LOL. Most irritating part is the check guages chime everytime it sweeps back and forth for the first 50 miles of a full tank! :lol:

I am still on the original pump and sender. I've got 113,000 on the car and it's been acting like this for the past 15,000 or so. :?
