Life of LIM gasket with NO Dexcool?
Hey guys.
Gonna get my car in to the shop first of the week and get the UIM replaced with the APN UIM.
I am just wondering if I need to change the LIM gasket again, as mine was replaced with an original style GM gasket 12537197 about 3.5 years ago/ 50K kms ago. As I have been reading that it looks like Dex Cool is one of the main culprits and mine has the good old green in it, should mine not last longer? As I am looking at another $200 plus ($110 for the gasket from GM, plus .8 hours for labour + 14% tax - the joys of living in Canada), I am just trying to decide if I should spend it or not.
Would appreciate some input.
Thanks
Erik

50,000 km'*? On green? Your LIM gaskets are probably fine. Series 1 cars from 92-95 typically go over 100k MILES on green coolant with OEM LIM gaskets. But you have to ask yourself 'why not'? You're already half way there. Cheap insurance.

I wonder if you can't get those LIM gaskets for less. willwren posted a link ( to intense, I think) who was selling the aluminum frame LIM gaskets for something like $50. Another option - call a few different GM dealers asking their parts departments for their best price on the gaskets. In my town, the price varies by more than $30 from one dealer to the next. (You might pick a dealer that has not recently remodeled.) There is not a whole lot more labor involved to pull the LIM, once the UIM is off. I would do it all at once and never worry about it again. These "permanent" repairs should also increase the resale value of your car.

ZZPerformance also has the aluminum LIM gaskets; got some for my wife'* 2004 LeSabre from there for about $55 shipped to San Diego and they were here in three days.

Called a couple of dealers up here, and so far they all want $120.25 + tax ($137.08 ) for the LIM gasket. I even have a good parts source that carries a lot of Delco stuff, but they told me the part is dealer only. Gotta love it!

Well, just checked RMS and if I use any of the quicker shipping methods, it will be about $105 US. Problem with using the slower ones is that they hit us with a heavy brokerage fee for bringing it through customs, usually negating any savings....

I can't imagine there would be a problem with ZZP or Intense shipping to Canada; however, if there is, I could hook you up.
My new-in-package GM aluminum LIM gaskets are sitting in the garage...I wasn't planning to get around to doing them on the 2004 LeSabre (purely proactive maintenance) for about 2 or 3 more weeks.
If you've got PayPal, I could ship you mine (retail plus shipping only...no gouging!) and I'll just buy myself another set...
EDIT: Checking USPS rates, it looks like the only way my offer could save you any significant $$ over your other options is if you are willing to have them shipped in a padded mailer (rather than a box), and are willing to go with a 4-6 day delivery time.
EDIT2: Also, I am assuming there would be no customs issues, as we are both private parties...
EDIT3: Dang...they're too big for an envelope rate, it would have to be a box. That puts the total at $75 and 3-5 days Global Express Mail, or $105 Global Express Guaranteed and 1-3 days. Oh well, I tried.

Andy..with these needing to go to Toronto..that shipping seems pretty high. The problem is that no matter what is shipped to Canada, there is a required value to be listed. Customs fees are then charged on every single thing except maybe gifts. Which is why I've sent many Canadian friends gifts w/o their knowledge. That way it only cost me and not them.
