Default A/C compressor Clutch is comming apart

I noticed that the a/c didn't work yesterday morning on my way to school, then finally got the noise from the A/C compressor evening. The mechanic says;;

" The A/C compressor clutch is coming apart..Due to the age and mileage of the vehicle, the compressor and clutch assembly should be replaced... for Warranty with the compressor the accumulator, and orfice tube need to be replaced.. The system also would need to be flushed. We do not know if there are any leaks in the system at this time. The accumulator and Lines are wet with oil, possible leak.

We also gave the option of the just installaing the compressor to act as a pulley. At your request no repairs were made at this time"

I want the second option A/C compressor woking as a pulley at this time, but I don't know how to replace this by myself. My Chilton'* manual doesn't say anything about A/C except 'don't touch'.

Can I replace the a/c compressor by myself?
Would you please let me know how to do this job? any special tool?

Any suggestion and recommendation will be appreciated...
Thanks.

Default Question Two

Can I just forget about the a/c compressor? I mean, Can I just get a shoter drive belt and round up other pulleys like engine, waterpump, alternator and so on except the a/c compressor?

I think your routing idea would probably be best, but I need to get under the hood of Jseaberts SSE to check it out. Totally different routing than mine.

Default Let me take a picture

Hi, willwren. Thanks you for your prompt reply as always.
Let me take a picture before doing the job.

Anyway, I think I have to fix the a/c compressor later. question is wheter I can do this job by myself or not...

I'll look forward your suggestion.
Thanks.

Can someone else with an L27 look under the hood and see what the belt routing would be like without the AC?

Default Belt routing without the A/C

It works pretty well.
I used 6pk1815, 715k6 Belt from Sears. I test drived for several miles and it seems to work fine.

Thanks.

Ok, the good news is you got more of a wrap on the Alt, but lost some wrap diameter on the WP. Keep an eye on the engine temps next summer if you still have it that way. Looks good!
